SHILLONG, Jun 7: The police today said that at least 100 of its personnel were injured during the violent protests at Motphran which suddenly erupted on May 31 that lasted for almost five days.
According to SP (City), Steve A Rynjah, out of the 100 a few personnel were seriously injured.
“One of the personnel got 32 stiches,” Rynjah added.
The SP (City) also informed that 40 people have been detained for violation of curfew even as he added that around 10 to 15 of them have been booked under various provisions of law for stone pelting against the police personnel.
Rynjah also informed media persons that those persons involved in the peotests were not from the city but hailed from other districts.
The SP (City) also said that police is investigating what has led to the matter flaring up.
Rynjah also informed that the police have arrested two persons, B Miza and Anil Basi who are residents of Sweeper’s Colony at Them ïew Mawlong for assaulting the three youth on the morning of May 31.
