145th ABDK Soba concludes in fervor of religious passion

Tura, Feb 10: The 145th Achik Baptist Dalgipa Krima (ABDK) Soba concluded today amidst a sea of humanity that gathered at the Dikki Bandi Stadium – the venue of the 5 day religious conference with a special worship service on Sunday.

Along with the thousands that gathered today were the chief minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma, his brother, home minister James Sangma as well as the leader of the opposition and former CM, Dr Mukul Sangma. They were joined by various MLAs and this year’s main speaker for the Soba, Reverend Dr Benjamin Christian.

The Soba next year moves to Rongjeng in East Garo Hills before finally moving to a permanent place, two years from now.

The entire town of Tura was a picture of cleanliness during the entire Soba with various Church and local communities coming together to showcase the beauty of the town to all those that came to be a part of the religious conference.

Speaking on the occasion, Reverend Dr Benjamin advised all “If you want to follow and choose a good life and celebrate eternal life then read the Scriptures, because Jesus never fails. For one to be a good teacher, a good businessman, a good leader he or she should read the Word of God.”

“Read the Scriptures if you want to be a good soul,” said the reverend while dwelling on the different problems facing society and the youth today. He also spoke on the burning issue of single mothers abandoned by their husbands and left to fend for themselves and gave comforting words of reassurance through Christ.

“The Lord will walk into your life even when everyone else has abandoned you,” said Reverend Benjamin.

CM, Conrad Sangma, while welcoming the delegates and devotees, said that it was a privilege for the citizens of the biggest and most important town to host the event. The CM is also the local legislator of South Tura where the Soba was held.

The CM lauded the efforts of the townsfolk in ensuring hospitality to all that came, as well as making Tura an example of transformation.

“Each one has made so much preparation in making this Soba a memorable event. We (government) made all efforts to make Tura hospitable for everyone. I apologize if we have fallen short of your expectations in any way,” said Conrad while addressing the devotees gathered.

The 5 day religious conference saw lakhs of devotees from across the state and beyond come together to be a part of Church events with Sunday being the final ‘special Church service’. The conference was also one of the biggest ever attended.
