Shillong, Jan 17: As per the newly Final Publication of Electoral Roll, there are 18, 92,716 voters in the eleven district of Meghalaya, said Chief Election Commissioner, F. R Kharkongor today.
Addressing a State Level function for Final Publication of Electoral Rolls at the DC’s office in Shillong on Thursday, he said that in the Final Electoral Roll 18,92,716 electorates are enrolled for the upcoming 2019 Parliamentary elections.
He however added that upgradation of the Electoral Roll would continue to ensure that no prospective voter is left out. He also said that female enrollment and participation is also very high in the State.
The CEO also informed that taking into account the lackadaisical approach of the electorates when it comes to Parliamentary elections, new and innovative measures would be introduced to encourage the people to go out and vote in large numbers. He also informed about the Voter Verification & Information Programme (VVIP) 1950 that would be launched on National Voters Day that would enable the electorates to verify and check their names polling stations and other details through mobile phones.
Earlier, the CEO also released the Electoral Rolls and handed them to representatives of different political parties. Also present during the occasion were Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Shillong, M W Nongbri who delivered the welcome Address and Additional CEO, R P Marak.
