Shillong, May 21: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, on the second day of the re-assembled budget session, informed that the Metal Scrap Trade Corporation (MSTC) will auction 2 Lakh metric tonnes of coal within 2-3 weeks.
His comment came after Leader of Opposition Dr Mukul Sangma urged the government to make coal mining auction and clearance for coal transportation more transparent so that there will be no scope for people to doubt the government’s intensions.
The Chief Minister, in his reply, stated that integrated check points will be formed in all exit points so as to plug out leakages and loopholes.
He added that following the approval from National Green Tribunal, 12,000 miners were given training on scientific mining methods.
During his reply on the budget discussion, the Chief Minister stated that the government was looking to set up a budget system that will benefit the state for 5-10 years.
He said that the budget prioritised 4 sectors, human development, health and education; primary sector, agriculture, veterinary, fisheries and more; infrastructure and entrepreneurship.
The Chief Minister also informed that the state has collected data from 10,000 enterprises that participated in the Meghalaya economic Survey. He said that 40% of them reported issues regarding cash flow. Others mentioned problems in transportation and markets for their products.
He said that through the survey, the government can map their problems and try to find a solution for the same.
