On relief measures for stakeholders in the Tourism industry, the Chief Minister stated that no direct relief measures were provided during the lockdown and restrictions due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
However, he added that other relief measures were undertaken, including renting hotels, lodges etc. to persons who were undergoing quarantine.
On a supplementary question by West Shillong MLA Mohendro Rapsang, on whether tourists cannot visit the state for duration of less than 48 hours, he said that the restrictions have relaxed and as of now the duration of stay should be at least 24 hours.
“We want… tourists to come and spend some money and stakeholders, whether it’s the hotels or homestays they can also start earning,” he stated.
On steps to improve flow of tourists, Conrad stated that strong aggressive marketing was undertaken to share information to tourists.
“The fact that we are starting and pushing for flights from different metros, the fact that we are creating high resolution and good quality videos for different tourism locations so we can market it, we have started investing in infrastructure… there are multiple factors that are going on,” he said.
