41 tests positive during random testing in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Aug 20: Meghalaya on Thursday recorded 126 new COVID-19 cases which included a doctor and four nurses from Ganesh Das Hospital even as 41 tested positive during random testing. 

Out of the 126 new cases East Khasi Hills recorded 106 cases. 

State Health Minister, A. L. Hek informed that of the 106 new cases in East Khasi Hills Ganesh Das Staffs accounted for five (a doctor and four nurses), one from Rilbong a central government health worker, 41 from the armed forces, CRPF three, BSF – 16, 11 from random testing at Khlieh Iew, 10 from Motphran random testing, 13 from random testing at Anjalee, five from random testing at Khyndailad and one OPD patient at RP Chest Hospital. 

West Garo Hills which recorded 12 cases, 10 are from BSF, two from Tikrikilla random testing, in East Garo Hills – one who is a returnee, Ri-Bhoi recorded six cases (five returnee and one contact tracing), West Jaintia Hills one a health worker Maternal and Child Health, corona care center, Jowai. 

The total active cases in Meghalaya now stands at 925.The district wise break up of the cases are – East Khasi Hills 571 (BSF – 108, others – 356 and armed forces – 117), West Garo Hills – 219, Ri-Bhoi – 101, North Garo Hills – 10, East Jaintia Hills – eight, West Jaintia Hills – five, South West Garo Hills – four, West Khasi Hills – three, South West Khasi Hills – one and East Garo Hills – one. 

Hek also informed that the total number of samples sent for testing till Thursday afternoon are – 45151, out of which 43020 samples tested negative and the results of 470 samples are awaited. 

The total number of citizens who have entered the state till date are 29471.
