45 persons tests positive during random testing in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Aug 21: Meghalaya on Friday recorded 57 new COVID-19 positive cases with Shahlang in West Khasi Hills emerging as yet another hotspot with 17 cases. 

The Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman Warr informed that of the 57 new cases East Khasi Hills accounted for 33 of those (armed forces and para military forces – two, others 31), from

random sampling at Khlieh Ïewduh- seven, Motphran random sampling 12, Anjalee – eight, Khyndailad – one, returnee one, a patient at Ganesh Das Hospital and one patient at Woodland.

West Garo Hills – three are from the armed forces and paramilitary forces

Ri-Bhoi – one who tested positive is a returnee, West Jaintia Hills one patient of R .P. Chest Hospital, West Khasi Hills – 17 all Shahlang random testing, East Garo Hills – two returnees.

Dr. Warr also informed that the total active cases in Meghalaya now stands at 963 – civilians 583 and 380 from the military and paramilitary forces. 

The district wise break up of the active cases are – East Khasi Hills 

599 (376 others, 223 from armed forces and paramilitary forces, West Khasi Hills – 18, South West Khasi Hills – one, Ri-Bhoi 92, West Jaintia Hills – five, East Jaintia Hills – eight, West Garo Hills – 22, South West Garo Hills – four, South Garo Hills – two, East Garo Hills – three and North Garo Hills – 10.

Meghalaya also recorded 19 new recovered cases, West Khasi Hills – two, West Garo Hills – one, Ri Bhoi – 10, West Jaintia Hills – one and East Khasi Hills – five, taking the total number pf recovered cases to 749.

The Director of Health Services also informed that a total of 70,413 samples have been sent for testing and 68,356 samples tested negative with 339 samples are waiting for the reports. 

Also 29,873 citizens have entered Meghalaya till date.
