Tura, Apr 8: Garo Hills woke up to a shocker today after a video of what appears to be a drunk minor girl who appears to have been molested by a group of men in a car, went viral on social media.
The incident, which seems to have occurred a few days ago shows a girl who sits in a car while her co-passenger who is also amongst the molesters run a bottle of water on her upper body before another molestor pulls downs her salwar to look into her body. The girl makes a few attempts at protecting herself though due to her being drunk, the efforts don’t make much headway.
Later into the video, the same suspect pushes his finger through her zip which she again tries to resist. The suspect then walks away before joining another group of people who are seen drinking beer. The video was taken by the same suspect and clearly shows a Scooty registration plate of the group.
Following the video going viral, North Garo Hills (NGH) police swung into action and immediately gathered the group for questioning. The five who have been taken into custody have been identified as Kaltu K Sangma (forest guard), Zingachio Ch Momin, Bansilal D Shira (ex jail warder), GNLA surrenderee Tenang and ANVC surrenderee Beking Sangma.
The group, according to police, are currently being questioned at Mendipathar PS.
“Immediately after we were informed on the matter we pinned down the people behind the case and called them for questioning. They were picked up this morning at about 1:30 am and interrogation is currently on. They are yet to reveal the identity of the girl who appears in the video and our search is on,” said NGH SP, Dalton Marak.
The incident however has not gone down very well with the people of the region who have sought the strictest punishment for those guilty of taking advantage of a girl and in this manner.
“This is not done and is absolutely condemnable. You cannot get a girl drunk and then take advantage of her this way. The people behind this dastardly act should be given the strictest punishment,” said woman activist, Jaynie N Sangma.
“This is a reflection of our society and how bad some of us have become. This is sad and disgusting. These people should be made examples so that people don’t follow their footsteps,” said a very angry resident, Bachu Marak from Mendipathar.
