57 year-old dies of COVID-19 in Meghalaya toll rises to 77

SHILLONG, Oct 21: Meghalaya on Wednesday recorded another COVID-19 death taking the total number of fatalities to 77, health authorities informed.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that the deceased Wester Mawrie 57 years of Mawlynrei, East Khasi Hills, Shillong, was admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital on September 19 and tested positive for COVID – 19 on October 10.

Dr. War informed that he expired on October 21 at 4:20 am.

The Director of Health Services informed that he died of Type I Respiratory Failure due to COVID – 19 Pneumonia with Cancer.

Meghalaya on Wednesday recorded 28 new COVID-19 cases and 177 recoveries.

With the number of new cases recording a low for the third consecutive day, the number of active cases has come down to 1870, the total recovered cases has gone upto 6674 and the number of deaths to 77.

The Director of Health Services informed that of the new cases, 12 were recorded in East Khasi Hills, six in West Garo Hills, five in West Jaintia Hills, two in East Garo Hills, two in South Garo Hills and one in East Jaintia Hills.

Dr. War said that of the 177 new recovered cases 104 were in East Khasi Hills (armed and paramilitary forces one, others 103), Ri-Bhoi 43 (armed and paramilitary forces 37, others six), West Garo Hills 14, North Garo Hills seven, West Jaintia Hills three, South West Garo Hills, South West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills two each.

He also informed that till date, the number of samples taken is 191490 out of which 182869 were negative. The Director of Health Services also informed that till date a total of 8621 were infected by the virus out of which 6674 have recovered, 1870 are active and 77 died.
