SHILLONG, Aug 12: Meghalaya on Wednesday recorded 37 new COVID-19 cases including a CBI inspector in the last 24 hours, the health authorities informed on Wednesday.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman Warr informed that out of these 37 cases, East Khasi Hills recorded 23 of them (BSF nine, armed forces two and civilians 12), South Garo Hills and North Garo Hills districts one each, West Garo Hill 10 all BSF, Ri-Bhoi and East Jaintia Hills one each.
With the new cases the State now has 656 active cases, out of which East Khasi Hills has 445 (BSF 97, civilians 277 and armed forces 71), West Khasi Hills three, South West Khasi Hill, Ri-Bhoi 93, West Jaintia Hills 16, South West Khasi Hills 1, East Jaintia Hills six, West Garo Hills 82, South West Garo Hills two, South Garo Hills three and North Garo Hills five.
Meghalaya also recorded seven recoveries on Wednesday taking the tally to 517. Out of the seven newly recovered cases East Khasi Hills has three, WEst KHasi Hills two, East Jaintia Hills one and Ri-Bhoi one.
The number of samples sent for testing till Wednesday afternoon is 42084, the samples which yielded negative results are 40611 and reports of samples awaited are 294. A total of 27290 citizens entered the state till Wednesday afternoon.
Dr. Warr also informed that a total of 418 persons have been tested randomly and all tests came out negative. In East Jaintia Hills – Lad Rymbai (67), Umpleng (71) and Lumshnong (89), East Garo Hills – Williamnagar (27) and West Garo Hills ISBT (91), Phulbari PHC (11) and Bhaitbari PHC (62).
Dr. Warr informed that of the 12 civilians who tested positive on Wednesday in East Khasi Hills – one is a positive case of a contact, one is a positive contact of North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) staff, a CBI inspector, two contacts of Civil Hospital Shillong and two returnees from Karnataka and Assam, one contact of a positive case a wife of a doctor studying in Nazareth Hospital and three NEIGRIHMS.
In South Garo Hills the lone case recorded on Wednesday is of one person who had come from Mahendraganj and the case from North Garo Hills is of an ambulance driver from Kharkutta PHC while the case from Ri-Bhoi is that of a returnee from Assam and the case from East Jaintia Hills is also of a returnee from Assam.
