Aircel’s closure hinders 108 operations

SHILLONG, Mar 14: After the sudden closure of Aircel the private telecom operator, several of its users across the state are facing a harrowing time.

Deepankar Choudhury, State Head (COO) at GVK EMRI, Meghalaya informed that due to frequent call drops and other related problems, calls to the 108 service has seen a fall of nearly 50 percent.

“Because of this network the calls to 108 has also dropped from average 550-600 calls per day to just below 300 average calls per day since 21st Feb 2018,” Choudhury said.

The State Head (COO) at GVK EMRI also said that the Aircel customers are annoyed and facing harassment.

“There is no network in most part of the city even with network, SMS does not work, customer care does not work and UPC code for porting cannot be done,” Choudhury said.

He also lamented that there is no arrangement for temporary access to any other network during this transitional period.

It may be mentioned that for porting to another telecom operator a customer has to wait for atleast 20 days to activate it.
