TURA, Mar 27: There are allegations against National People’s Party (NPP) legislator from Phulbari, SG Esmatur Mominin that he has ordered for auctioning of trees allegedly standing on government property.
Incidentally Mominin is the chairman of the Forest Development Corpoartion of Meghalaya (FDCM).
The matter came to light after a few residents of the area informed to the authorities.
According to the order which was hand written and in the MLA’s letter pad, the MLA has ordered the Ranger in the area to allot 500 cubic feet (Cft) of timber to one Shah Jahan Islam Sarkar.
Authorities of the forest department said that the Chairman of the FDCM cannot order a Ranger for allotment or auction.
Sources informed that the allotment or auction order needs to come from the corportion and the chairman can’t be directly involved in it.
Forest authorities also said that it was only the corporation which is allowed to auction seized timbers in the state even as it said that auctions are done through advertisements and after due process is followed.
Meanwhile, Mominin while down playing the entire episode blamed it on misunderstanding.
“They misconstrued the order and cut down trees instead. It has been stopped after the matter was informed to me,” Mominin said.
