AMSSASTA calls off agitation

Shillong, Mar 17: The All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers’ Association (AMSSASTA) has called off its proposed agitation following to the assurance of the education minister, Lahkmen Rymbui that the pending salaries of the teachers would be released soon.

The education minister assurance was made in the just concluded Budget Session of the Assembly.

Earlier, the AMSSASTA in their executive meeting held at the Khasi National Dorbar Hall resolved to issue an ultimatum of 5 days to the state government on the demand for salary release failing which it lead to an indefinite school strike throughout the state.

“Based on his promise in the floor of the August House, we hereby call off our indefinite school strike and request all the SSA teachers to kindly attend their work as usual,” said AMSSASTA general secretary, DS Lamare.

Further the association also expressed appreciation to Mayralborn Syiem, the MLA of Nongpoh for time and again raising concern for the SSA teaching community. It also thanked all its members for their supports and cooperation.

The association also thanked the education minister and the state government for their effort to heed the critical need of the SSA Teachers who are always find themselves caught between the devil and the deep sea.

The association urged the state government to seriously to look into the matter of salary payments and to work out a solution for the chronic problem, so that the SSA teachers get their monthly salary or at least in equal short interval of every two months.
