SHILLONG, May 8: A cyclonic storm in Garo Hills on Tuesday morning hit power supply in the region which was not restored till filing of this report, even as it left a trail of destruction.
The storm destroyed houses, uprooted trees as well as electric poles in many places leaving the entire Garo Hills in darkness which was not restored even till the writing of this report.
Over 200 households were affected in the storm today in East Garo Hills, most of which were in the Samanda block. Villages like Rongongre, Baiza, Jakopgre among others were the worst affected in the district.
The East Garo Hills district administration distributed tarpaulin sheets to the affected people though no camps have been set up.
“Most of the houses were blown away in the storm and many trees and electric poles uprooted. The situation is being monitored, Deputy Commissioner, Ram Kumar said.
The situation was the same in other parts of the region too.
