Shillong, Nov 5: The five-day autumn session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly began on Thursday, amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Health Minister A L Hek, and Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, who had tested positive for coronavirus were not in attendance. Other than the duo almost all Legislators were present.
Five bills were tabled on the first day of the autumn session, including the Meghalaya Right to Public Services Bill, 2020.
The others include, Meghalaya Settlement of Arrears (under the State Taxation Acts) Bill, 2020, the Meghalaya Minerals Cess (Amendment) Bill, 2020, the Meghalaya Farmers’ (Empowerment) Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2020 and the St. Xavier’s University, Shillong Bill, 2020.
A Government Resolution, for Governor’s rule in GHADC for 6 months or till election, was approved.
The Assembly also elected 10 members each to the Committee of Public Accounts and Committee on Estimates.
Assembly Committee Chairpersons of Public Undertakings, Empowerment of Women, and privileges also presented their reports.
Following the session, a portrait of late Dr. Donkupar Roy was also unveiled in the Annexe Hall of the temporary Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Chamber at Rilbong, Shillong.
