AYC wants generic medicines in govt owned health health centres

SHILLONG, Mar 1: The Achik Youth Council (AYC) has sent a memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to set up generic medical shops in government health centres like civil hospitals and community health centres.

According to Dardy GC Marak chief adviser to the AYC generic medicines are cheaper.

“As you know with the facts that affordable health care is still a distant reality for thousands of people in the region. The branded allopathy medicine which is easily available in the local medical stores is significantly beyond the capacity for the poverty-stricken people. The underprivileged populace is not able to buy the costlier branded medicines, consequently compel to die without proper medication,” the AYC said.

However accoring to Marak the government can put an end to the problem to some extent by introducing generic medicines in the state.

According to him the initiative of the generic medicine was first introduced in the state of Rajasthan.

The AYC said that generic medicine is best option for the people of Meghalaya since it is cheaper than allopathic medicines.

“As per the expert; the qualities of generic medicine are same and safe as that of branded version,” the AYC said.

According to the council if the qualities of generic drugs are same as the branded allopathy medicines then the generic drugs is 24-karat option for the people.

“It is the duty of the government to protect the lives of the people and find the key to solve the predicament of the citizens whatsoever,” the AYC added.
