Baghmara, Mar 12: The town of Baghmara in South Garo Hills (SGH) has been without petrol since the past 4 days after the only petrol pump in the town suffered a short circuit in the pumping lines leading to authorities shutting down service to avoid any mishap.
The only pump has remained dysfunctional since Friday, Mar 9, though the company responsible for its maintenance is yet to arrive to bring it back to normal leading to many consumers seeking redressal of their grievances.
The situation however has led to unscrupulous black marketers selling much needed petrol at sky high rates – close to Rs 130 per litre to customers desperate to travel to other parts of the state as well as make trips from their house to their workplaces.
“There was a short circuit to the petrol pumping machine which led us to shut it down in order to ensure that no untoward incident took place as petrol is very combustible. The matter has also been informed to the company dealing with the petrol pump, though engineers are yet to arrive to sort out the problem,” said Abraham T Sangma, the SP of SGH.
The SP stated that he was aware of the episode of back marketing and the matter was being looked into.
