Shillong, Mar 11: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today informed that the expected date of completion of the Bailey bridge across Umiam river is March 31st, 2020.
During question hour on Day 5 of the Budget, he stated that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has handed over the project for laying of the Bailey to Border Roads Organisation.
Umroi MLA George Lyngdoh then posed a supplementary question, as to if the cost of the project was born by NHAI or the state government.
The Deputy CM responded saying that the cost was born by NHAI and the project was handed over to them back in 2010.
The Congress MLA raised concerns as to how the project was nearing completion when columns were still under construction a week before budget session.
“It will take some time for the cement to set in and be able for utilisation so maybe another 2 weeks for cement to set… these technicalities has to be looked into and I request the Deputy Chief Minister for constant supervision,” he said.
The Deputy CM assured the MLA that the Chief Engineer of National Highway has been assigned to monitor the bridge on regular basis.
“Even the Chief Secretary and Additional secretary they are monitoring and they keep having a meeting on regular basis,” he added.
