SHILLONG, Oct 17: State BJP vice president, Bernard N Marak on Saturday said that the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) exists because of the BJP and the National People’s Party (NPP) cannot ask the saffron party to leave the coalition.
It may be mentioned that on Friday, NPP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had asked the BJP to leave the MDA if it was not comfortable being in the coalition.
“Sad that Prestone did not realise that without BJP MDA cannot exist,” Marak said.
The state BJP leader added, “Prestone Tynsong’s statement asking the BJP to leave MDA is the most irresponsible statement given by NPP against BJP with sole intention to divert the corruption of NPP leaders.”
It may be reminded that the State BJP had alleged corruption in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council and the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council and illegal transportation of coal under the nose of the government.
Marak also said that asking the BJP to leave the MDA was a “joke”.
Marak also said that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma won the Tura seat by good margin because of BJP otherwise his chance of winning was only 50 percent.
He also said that Sangma was made Chief Minister so that he would lead MDA providing “good governance”.
The State BJP leader asked Sangma to make a public statement that NPP does not need BJP.
He said that the NPP has revealed it’s true colour by asking BJP to leave the alliance when in reality it is the NPP who might need to leave MDA once their corruption is unveiled and the fear of which has made them oppose CBI inquiry.
