Shillong, Jan 13: Cattle smugglers on January 12 attacked Border Security Force (BSF) personnel along the Indo-Bangla international border in South Salamara district of Assam.
According to BSF, officials, the incident took place in the area of responsibility of border out post Deepchar under Guwahati Frontier.
The BSF personnel on duty saw a group of 20-25 cattle smugglers on both the sides of the international border who were trying to smuggle the cattle from India to Bangladesh by taking advantage of fog and poor visibility.
When the BSF personnel challenged them the smugglers did not pay any heed and instead took an aggressive posture.
The injured BSF personnel on duty was encircled and he was attacked with bamboo sticks and sharp-edged cleaver.
“During the scuffle, one of the smugglers hit the BSF personnel – Bikash Kumar on his forehead with a bamboo stick and he sustained injury on the upper side of forehead,” BSF officials said. BSF officials said that the smugglers ran away by taking advantage of dense fog. The condition of the injured BSF personnel is stable.
