SHILLONG, Feb 5: Former ULFA leader, Anup Chetia has said that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 will finish the identity, culture and demographic structure of the northeast region.
Chetia who met Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma at his office chamber on Tuesday said that the Bill will especially affect Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur.
When asked about his stand on the Inner Line Permit (ILP), Chetia said that its implementation is a big problem.
“But I think in Meghalaya it can be implemented. This is a good opportunity and yes in Meghalaya and even in Assam, ILP should be implemented,” the former ULFA leader said.
He also was grateful to Conrad for opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 not only in Meghalaya but whole region.
“The Chief Minister (Conrad) has taken bold stand against CAB though he’s partner alliance of the BJP, his stand we appreciate him. We came here to congratulate him. We need leader like Conrad not only in Meghalaya but whole of northeast region,” Chetia said.
He also said that the North East Indigenous People’s Forum (NEIPF) stand against the citizenship bill and will go against it along with people of Assam and also with the help of people of the region as a whole.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya chapter of the NEIPF was formed in the city on Tuesday with FKJGP president, Wellbirth Rani to lead it.
