Centre should implement ILP in Meghalaya: Hamletson Dohling

Shillong, Nov 20: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) today said that government at the centre should implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) for restricting entry of outsiders to the tribal-dominated state.

“Implementation of ILP under the Eastern Bengal Frontier Regulation Act, 1873 is one among the issue that the party has been demanding,” said Hamletson Dohling a PDF leader who is also a Minister in the NPP led coalition Government.

The PDF leader also welcomes the move of the NGOs to resume their agitation for demanding of implementation of ILP.

The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) with four MLAs is an ally in the NPP led MDA ruling coalition.

According to Dohling, the Centre is yet to come out clear on the demand to implement ILP in the State.

“We cannot say if the Centre is in favour or against the implementation of ILP. But as a party we have always accorded top priority to ILP,” PDF leader stated.

He also confirmed that Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma had just met Union Home Minister, Amit Shah on Wednesday last but we are to know whether the Chief Minister had manage to raise the issue on ILP before the Union Home Minister.

However, he said, the picture will be clearer once the Chief Minister returns.

Dohling said that the PDF will urged upon the Chief Minister on the need aggressively follow up this issue with the Centre.
