SHILLONG, Jun 11: Creation of a civil sub-division at Ranikor is being dangled as a carrot in front of Congress legislator Martin M Danggo for him to resign from the party and join the National People’s Parety (NPP).
The NPP wants the Congress leader to join the NPP immediately.
However, not to be out done, a close supporter of the Congress leader said that the Danggo will join the NPP only if the state governent announces the creation of a civil sub-division at Ranikor.
It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Home Minster James K Sangma, Cabinet Ministers, party president Dr W Kharlukhi and party MLAs are visiting Ranikor on Tuesday.
The visit is seen as a precursor to the Congress leader joining the NPP.
A Congress leader close to Danggo said, “After the state government announces the creation of the sub-division we will persuade sir (Danggo) to join the party. But it is up to him to make the final decision.”
Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong who himself joined the NPP prior to the polls said that the NPP is happy to welcome any leader to the party.
“We will be more than happy if Danggo comes to joins the party,” Tynsong said.
He however denied that the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government has made a commitment to upgrade the Ranikor Administrative Unit into a Civil Sub-Division.
It may be mentioned that before the 2018 elections the Congress led MUA Government had inaugurated the Administrative Unit at Ranikor.
“This is not as per the expectations of the people of the constituency,” Deputy Chief Minister said.
Tynsong maintained that their main purpose to visit Ranikor constituency on Tuesday was to oversee the progress of developmental works in Ranikor constituency.
The deputy chief minister said that Ranikor deserves a Civil Sub Division long time back to speed up the seeds of development since 75 percent of the areas is not assessible.
