CM inspects sites for setting up of entry-exit point in Ri Bhoi

SHILLONG, Mar 9: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday inspected the proposed sites for setting up of entry and exit point in Umling of Ri Bhoi district.

The CM accompanied by the Home Minister, Transport Minister, Urban Minister and other senior officials visited Umling this morning at around 10 am.

The CM reiterated that the setting up of the entry-exit point was the priority of the Government and the senior officials have already started working to kick start the construction of the facilitation centre.

According to the Chief Minister, the construction work for the entry and exit point in Umling and in some other locations of the state would start within a couple of months.

Yesterday, on the first day of the budget session, the Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy in his address has said that the process of setting up facilitation centers at various entry and exit points to contain influx is in progress.

According to officials, the idea of the State Government to setup entry and exit points in different parts of the state to check on illegal immigration would cost the State Government over Rs 1000 crore.

It may be mentioned that the state government has entrusted the Meghalaya Institute of Governance in carrying out social impact assessment (SIA) at 14 locations, including five in the Garo hills, for setting up of entry and exit points
