SHILLONG, Mar 26: The Congress on Tuesday said that non-tribal voters will vote for the party despite the BJP setting up candidates from Shillong and Tura seats.
Congress spokesperson and Mawsynram legislator, Himalaya Shangpliang said that despite speculation that non-tribals will vote for the BJP in the April 11 Lok Sabha polls in Meghalaya Congress’ vote bank will always remain.
“We always had a good non-tribal vote bank. This vote banks will not erode since the BJP has fielded its candidate and more people (non-tribals) has come in support of the Congress,” Shangpliang said.
Meanwhile, he also said that the Minimum Income Guarantee Scheme promised by the Congress president Rahul Gandhi would be one of the world’s largest poverty eradication measures ever.
The scheme Minimum Income Guarantee Scheme (Nyuntam Aay Yojana) aims at providing guaranteed amount of Rs 72,000 per year wherein 20 percent of the poorest families of the country would benefit.
