SHILLONG, Apr 12: The opposition Congress in the state will launch a state wide protest against the proposal of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government to issue work permits to Bangladeshi nationals.
Addressing media persons on Thursday at the Congress Bhavan in the city, opposition leader in the Meghalaya Assembly, Dr Mukul Sangma said that the Congress party will totally oppose the proposal of the NPP led Government of providing work permit to the Bangladeshi nationals.
“The party at any cost will not allow the State Government to provide work permit to the Bangladeshi nationals,” the former Chief Minister said.
Dr Mukul said that from Saturday onwards the party will launch protest in Shillong and Mendipathar.
The former chief minister also said that that they would garner the support of the people on this issue.
Dr Mukul informed that he will lead the protest in Mendipathar and other leaders of the party will lead the protest to be held in Shillong.
“We are not convinced with the justification that this idea was mooted to facilitate trade and commerce,” Dr Mukul added.
He also expressed surprise that the Chief Minister claimed that this proposal is for the economic growth of the people of the State.
