Shillong, Mar 8: Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma said that social auditing on the implementation of MGNREGA is taking place at all levels in the State.
“That is why we see the Lokayukta and the Courts are taking up cases (of illegalities) in its implementation,” Sangma said.
He also informed reporters that the state is one of the top three in the country to implement the MGNREGA. The Chief Minister pointed out that the budget for the scheme has been hiked to Rs 1600 crore this year.
According to Sangma, Assam which is a large state got only Rs. 200 crore.
On the issue of high Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), in Meghalaya, the Chief Minister said that there are many factors which contributes to it.
He pointed out that in certain cases a 25 years old woman would be giving birth to her sixth baby and there is also no spacing.
He informed that the MOTHERS app is meant to get all these aspects on board.
“At any given point of time we can tell who are the mothers at the highest risk, with technology,” Sangma added.
The Chief Minister also informed that this year would be crucial since projects will be up and running and momentum will be built up.
