Shillong, Oct 15: Chairman of the State Planning Board, Lambor Malngiang, during the release of the Meghalaya State Planning Board booklet for 2018 and 2019 today, stated that he suggested the state government to convert Barik Point into a multi-storeyed parking lot.
“On Barik Point my suggestion to the state government is that this will be the best place for the construction of parking lot,” he said.
It may be reminded, the State Planning Board in 2018 has advocated the idea to develop the PWD office in Barik Point into a multi-level parking lot to ease perennial traffic congestion on city roads.
Malngiang informed that the booklet contains important points that need to be highlighted including solutions to traffic congestion, especially in the Shillong Agglomeration area.
Link roads connecting to highways, he said, were a part of the solution to reduce traffic.
“We have been able to bring out solutions to the problems, not 100% but at least 40%, we have been able to bring up good infrastructure,” he said.
The Chairperson expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma for giving him ‘the opportunity to head this board and to ensure that we give suggestions to the government.’
“We have tried our best to give the best placement before the government and also rectify numbers of loopholes that took place in the past,” he added.
Malngiang said that the board will also conduct joint inspections of the fish ponds under the Aqua Mission. He said that according to reports, 25,000 fish ponds have been constructed and Rs 340 crores have been spent for the purpose.
The board also provided suggestions in regards to infrastructure on agriculture, health, power, and other sectors, he said.
He said that they have also suggested developing and identifying more farmer market places with cold storages in rural areas.
