COVID-19: Govt to provide Rs 1000 to Meghalaya Citizens outside State

Shillong, Apr 11: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Saturday informed that all the students and people working outside the state, who have not been able to return home, will be provided with Rs 1000 per week as financial assistance.

The Deputy CM said that there are 2,192 people currently stranded outside the state.
However, he revealed that this number is only of those who have registered themselves with the Meghalaya Government.

“We will extend financial help to them from the Chief Minister’s relief fund. We have already fixed Rs 1000 per week as financial assistance and we will transfer the amount to their account. I am sure Rs 1000 per week is enough at least to manage their daily necessities,” he said.

He further added that the government is in touch with all the 2,192 people. He also revealed that the Chief Secretary has been instructed to be in touch with his counterpart from other states so as to prevent any situation of crisis.
