SHILLONG, Apr 16: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, on Thursday, informed that the total number of tests conducted for COVID-19 so far is 552 out of which 382 tests were conducted after the detection of the first positive case on April 13.
The number of positive cases in the state is 7 and the state recorded 1 death on Wednesday. It was revealed that the number of negative cases is 372 and results of 178 samples are still awaited.
“The department and state government have been leaving no stone unturned to ensure we are facing this challenge in front of us. Today, our officers, whether it is the health department, administrators, the entire government machinery are working overtime but there are challenges,” the Chief Minister said through a Facebook Live.
He informed that a meeting was held attended by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Health Minister A.L Hek, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbai, the Chief Secretary and other officials wherein the entire situation was reviewed.
“We have also worked on ensuring that more testing can be done. We are working on trying to get rapid test kits from different parts of the world. NEIGHRIMS – the overall testing facility – has been increased to almost 100 tests per day,” he revealed.
The Chief Minister also thanked institutes in Assam for providing 50 additional tests per day. “We have a capacity of total 150 tests we can do. Testing of Primary contacts will be completed very soon,” he said.
It was informed that the total number of Late Dr Sailo’s Primary Contacts are 140 and there are 4000 secondary contacts as recorded by the state government. The number of samples taken from Bethany Hospital were 214. The number taken from other institutions were 270.
It was also informed that the total number of inpatients and attendees at Bethany Hospital were 106 while staff members were 80 and there are 91 people currently quarantined in corona care centres.
Meanwhile, it was also revealed that the total number of people who have registered themselves with the government through 1070 & 108 stand at 5105 and all of them were reached out on IVRS. The people who received the call were 4172.
The government said that the registered persons were being monitored through telephonic calls. The individuals have been requested to pick up calls and provide correct information.
