Shillong, Dec 3: C&RD Minister Hamletson Dohling today urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to resolve the long pending issues faced by residents of border areas by discussing the matter with his Assam counterpart.
In his letter to the Chief Minister, Dohling stated that the residents of Block-II of Mawhati Constituency in Ri Bhoi District were facing various problems due to ‘condemnable actions’ on the part of counterparts from Assam.
“In 2018, a school building at Khlieh Umwang has been destroyed. Besides, Assam Forest Department has frequently charged taxes for agriculture goods and not allowing the villagers of these areas to collect firewood and to carry sand for the household activities,” the letter read.
Dohling stated that the residents highlighted that the sanctioned infrastructure developmental works could not be carried out in the areas due to stiff opposition from the Assam counterpart.
“At the same time there are no ASHAs in these villages to implement various Government schemes through National Health Mission,” it read.
