Shillong, Jan 5: Heated discussions on prevalent issues and deliberations marked the Meghalaya State Youth Parliament held through virtual mode on Tuesday at the conference room of the Task Force, MATI building.
The Union government’s autonomous body of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghathan, Meghalaya organised the event.
Inaugurating the event, State Director of NYKS Inkhuanguang urged the youth to utilise such opportunities to groom themselves into better citizens.
John Kennedy Diengdoh from East Khasi hills district has been declared the winner of the contest for State Youth Parliament, while Brithuel G. Sangma from South Garo hills district and Meshanki Sutong from East Jaintia Hills district have been adjudged as second and third runners-up, respectively.
The parliament was participated by 17 youths from 11 districts of Meghalaya.
The results were declared as per the judgment by a 5-member jury including Dr. Jemino Mawthoh associate professor and ex-MLA, Phyrnai Marbaniang artiste and resource person MATI, Bobby Wahlang Programme Coordinator of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Kyrmenlang Uriah CEO of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly channel and Dipankar Nandi educational councellor from NCERT, Meghalaya.
The winner of the state-level parliament will be given the chance to speak at the central hall of the Parliament while the 2nd and 3rd runner-up will get the chance to participate in this parliament.
The main aim of organizing this parliament is to make the youth realize about various social issues in the country.
The ministry of youth welfare and sports will hold the national youth parliament on January 13 at the central hall in Parliament House.
