Tura, Mar 26: The newly elected NPP led EC is expected to see quite a lot of upheaval after the fall of the Congress led EC. To begin with NPP sources have stated that the new EC could see Denang T Sangma, an NPP stalwart come back as the Chairman of the GHADC with another old warhorse, Dolly K Sangma, being rewarded with the post of the deputy CEM.
The new NPP led EC is expected to move for the removal of Congress nominee and current Chairperson, Sadhiarani Sangma, and appoint former CEM Denang T Sangma as chairman after the budget session which takes place from Tuesday onwards.
Dolly K Sangma, who represents Damas is also expected to be the new deputy CEM with two BJP members of the 3 in the GHADC also likely to be given berths in the 12 member EC. The BJP currently has three MDCs, Kurosh Marak from Dalu, Bhupendra Hajong from Zikzak and Sofiur Rahman of Balachanda.
The biggest losers in the current NPP led EC are likely to be the Garo National Council (GNC) after its alleged betrayal of the NPP led alliance. Wenison Ch Marak and Jimbert Goera R Marak, both of whom were rewarded with positions by Boston Marak for crossing over to the Congress have been left out in the new NPP alliance.
Party sources revealed that the MDCs were opposed to the return of the two MDCs due to their role in the fall of the NPP led GHPA alliance. Augustine Marak(former Deputy CEM), is the lone GNC MDC in the current NPP led alliance.
Two current MDCs from the NPP fold who contested the recent state elections and triumphed to become MLAs made their presence felt in the house during the election for the post of new CEM on Monday.
NPP MDCs Benedict Marak and S G Esmatur Mominin defeated two Congress heavyweights in the assembly elections, namely assembly speaker A T Mondal in Phulbari and Limison D Sangma in Raksamgre.
