TURA, Apr 25: Former chief of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) Denang T Sangma has threatened to file a defamation suit against an RTI activist for allegeing that he embezzled council funds meant for Williamnagar constituency.
Sangma said that the criticism against him by one Nilbath Marak was totally false and baseless.
“Almost all projects that have been taken up are completed. However, there are few that should be completed in due course of time as these projects are part of the ongoing schemes. It is surprising as to how can one say that these projects are incomplete,” the National People’s Party (NPP), council member said.
The MDC also stated that two guest houses of GHADC in Williamnagar were in fact sanctioned for Williamnagar.
“This charge is again false as in reality two guest houses were sanctioned, one of which has been completed and the other is still under construction. The allegation made against me of constructing only one guest house in place of two is therefore wrong,” he further added.
The NPP leader further said since the charges against him were false he is left with no choice but to resort to filing a defamation case against those are trying to malign his image.
Earlier, Sangma was accused of massive misappropriation of money from the Special Plan Assistance (SPA) of Rs 100.71 crores received for the development of projects under GHADC.
The former chief of the GHADC was allocated over Rs 5.7 crores from the sanctioned amount.
RTI activist, Marak had alleged that at least 19 of the 46 projects taken up by the MDC were only on paper, raising questions of misappropriation.
