DMCH Tura doctors remove 22 kg ovarian tumor

Tura, Oct 25: Doctors at the District Maternity and Child Hospital at Tura in West Garo Hills have successfully removed an ovarian tumor weighing 22 kgs.

The tumour was removed from a 23 year patient who hailed from Baghmara in South Garo Hills.

While tumours in the range of 8-10 kgs are removed on a regular basis at the DMCH, this is the first time that a tumour of this range was removed successfully.

The operation on the 23 year old was led by Dr Vince Chimpoo M Momin (gynecologist), Dr Blandina Marak (anasthesist) and assisted by Dr Bithi Sangma (senior medical officer) and Dr Azuma Shira. The team was also helped by Cris Noel Sangma and Arnold Momin (OT assistants).

When contacted on the matter, Dr Vince Momin stated the patient was being treated by local quack in the village for the past 2 years before seeking medical advice.

“She was admitted at the hospital last week and surgery was performed on Oct 24. While tumours ranging from 8 to 10 kgs are operated normally in DMCH this is something that was done for the first time at Tura,” said Dr Momin.

“This is proud moment for the Health dept particularly on the DMCH where such type of operations are being conducted,” added the hospital authorities.
