Eight Meghalaya ministers are crorepatis

SHILLONG, Mar 13: Eight Ministers which constitute 67 percent of the Cabinet in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) coalition government led by National People’s Party (NPP)  are “crorepatis”.

According to, the report of the Association for Democratic Reform (ADR), the average assets of the 12 ministers is Rs 13.07 crores.

The minister with the highest declared total assets is that of United Democratic Party (UDP), legislator from Mairang constituency, Metbah Lyngdoh with assets worth Rs.87.26 crores.

In the second place comes NPP, MLA from Raliang, Comingone Ymbon who has assets worth Rs 26.39 Crore, while, another UDP legislator, Lahkmen Rymbui from Amlarem constituency has assets worth Rs 11.21 Crore.

Meanwhile, the minister with the lowest declared assets is that of People’s Democratic Front (PDF), legislator from Mylliem Constituency, Hamletson Dohling. Dohling’s declared assets is worth Rs 31.83 lakhs.

The minister with the second lowest declared assets is that of, Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), legislator from Sohiong, Samlin Malgniang.

As per the analysis of his self-sworn affidavit, Malgniang has assets worth, Rs 35.11 lakhs.

PDF, legislator from Mawkynrew, Banteidor Lyngdoh has assets worth, Rs 35.23 lakhs.

None of the ministers have declared criminal cases against themselves.

A total of 6(50 percent) ministers have declared their educational qualification to be between 8th and 12th pass while 6(50 percent) are graduates or have higher degrees.

A total of 4(33 percent) ministers have declared their age to be between 25-40 years while 8(67 percent) ministers have declared their age to be between 41-60 years.
