Fire burns down two schools in SGH

Tura, Feb 17: The only secondary school along with the Upper Primary school in the village of Mibonpara in South Garo Hills mysteriously caught fire on Feb 14 leading to many smelling a rat. While local villagers stated that there was nothing suspicious reported during the night, the Achik Youth Council (AYC) has sought a thorough inquiry into the matter.
The fire incident took place at about 1 am in the morning.
“We are shocked to hear of the two schools being gutted in a mysterious fire. The secondary school is the only one in the area and caters to education for many nearby villages as well. We want a magisterial inquiry into the fire and if foul play is involved, the guilty should be taken to task,” said AYC president, Silning D Sangma.
Confirming the incident, the superintendent of South Garo Hills, Abraham T Sangma said, “It seems strange that the fire took place only in the schools. As such I have asked the SDPO of Chokpot to do a thorough investigation. If there is wrongdoing involved, we will file a case and act accordingly.”
The SP also confirmed that the villagers confirmed that no suspicious activity took place during the ensuing night.
