SHILLONG, Jun 19: A five-member delegation of the Punjab government has arrived in the state capital, Shillong following reports that residents of Harijan Colony have received death threats from the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).
The delegation is led by, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Cooperation and Jail Minister, MPs, Ravneet Singh Bittu and Jasbir Singh Gill, MLAs – Kuldeep Singh Vaid and Kulbir Singh Zira.
According to sources the delegation will meet Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma tomorrow morning at 10 am.
But with Conrad in New Delhi to attend a meeting convened by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on the ‘one nation, one election’ issue, being held on Wednesday he may however not be in Shillong on time.
“In this case the delegation will meet Home Minister, James Sangma,” sources said.
Harijan Colony, situated near Iewduh (Bara Bazaar) is inhabited by people from Punjab, who were brought to Shillong around 200 years ago by the British to work as cleaners and sweepers.
