Former CM (L) Dr. Donkupar Roy’s portrait unveiled in Assembly

Shillong, Nov 5: A portrait of the former Speaker and Chief Minister Late Dr. Donkupar Roy was unveiled today in the Annexe Hall of the temporary Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Chamber at Rilbong, Shillong. 

The portrait was unveiled by Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh, in the presence of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Leader of Opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and other legislators.

The late speaker passed away last year on 28 July.

Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh, who succeeded late Dr. Don following his demise remembered the achievements of the late Speaker. “It is important for us to remember this great leader… unfortunately he is the first speaker to pass away while in office,” he said.  

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma stated that Dr. Don was an inspiration to everyone and the portrait will be transferred to the new assembly building on completion.  

Leader of Opposition, Dr. Mukul Sangma stated that it was important to remember past leaders and that the state had the privilege of having illustrious leaders who have occupied the post of Speaker.
