TURA, Jun 28: The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) on Thursday met the State Project Director (SPD), Education Department to demand the release of their three months salaries.
The SSA teachers have not been paid their salaries since April this year.
“The SPD assured that the salaries should be released by the 1st week of July but that was dependent of the state government releasing funds for our salaries to the education department,” AGHSSASTA president, Stickson B Sangma said.
The delegation of SSA teachers from Garo Hills were informed that due to non availability of funds, maintenance funds under SSA, which include funds for uniforms, books and TLA could not be released.
“The state did not have funds to pay salaries, how were the other items supposed to be given?” the SPD informed.
AGHSSASTA, general secretary, B Ch Marak said that these funds were given every year previously but this year there is not enough text books, or money for uniform or even maintenance.
Marak said, “We urged them to release funds for the distribution of such items to the students as well. We have also requested the competent authorities to release our 3 months pending salaries and 8 months arrears with immediate effect.”
