Garo Teachers’ Association says will hunger strike, if salaries not paid

Shillong, Dec 2: The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) today stated that they were deeply disappointed that the state government has not released their salaries pending for 4 months despite submitting many memorandums and reminders.

President of the association Labingstone G. Momin said that if their salaries were not paid, they will have no other option than to go for an indefinite hunger strike.

“Despite a long wait our demands are not met by the state Government till date, we are tired of submitting memorandums and frequent petitions to the state Government concerning our salary issues.  However, the State Government did not bother to address our problems,” the Association stated.

General Secretary of the Association, Benabith Ch. Marak stated that if the demands are not met by the state government, the aggrieved SSA Teachers would be ‘on an empty stomach and affect our normal life.’

“We cannot discharge our regular duties as per the order of the State Government with an empty stomach,” he added.
