GHADC CEM Boston Marak resigns, NPP to form EC

Tura, March 24: The Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) Chief Executive Member, Boston Marak has resigned from the post after 7 MDCs defected to the National People’s Party.

Following the defection, the NPP’s growth in strength has gone up to 19 which now means the NPP will form the next GHADC government in the coming days.

This will be the 3rd instance of the GHADC changing hands and to form the new EC.

Speaking to this reporter, Boston Marak informed that he handed over his resignation to Chairperson Sadhia Rani M Sangma on Friday evening.

Boston had won the GHADC election on an NPP ticket before moving to Congress last year.

He was appointed the CEM of the GHADC before shifting allegiance to the Garo National Council (GNC) and contested in Salmanpara for the party.

The latest development comes in the wake of the state government changing hands from the Congress to the NPP led MDA which in a way has also paved the way for the members to join the ruling party in the state.

Boston earlier had the support of 17 out of the 29 members in the House. But seven members including 5 Congressmen, 1 NCP member and an independent MDC defected to the NPP.

Out of seven who defected to the NPP, five have joined last week and two MDCs on Friday evening in Shillong.
