Government identifies areas for accomodating vendors

SHILLONG, Aug 31: The government on Monday said that it has identified around five to six vending zones for street vendors in Shillong.

Briefing, the media on Monday, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong informed that out of these places, Polo Parking Lot is one of them.

Tynsong informed that during the review meeting, the Urban Affairs Department gave a detailed presentation on the matter.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that only those hawkers registered with the appropriate authorities will be accommodated.

Tynsong also said that the State government wants to regulated the entry of people from outside into Meghalaya due to the spike in cases especially, in Shillong and West Garo Hills.

“The state government is responsible to ensure that the citizens of the state are safe and to control the spread of the virus,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.

It may be mentioned that starting on Monday midnight till midnight of September 7, all entry points into the state will be closed.

Earlier, the state government had taken the decision to close all entry points for a week for three months from September to November.

This is to give the people manning the entry points some rest and also to sanitise the infrastructures in such entry points.
