Govt decides to close all entry points from July 23 midnight

Shillong, July 15: In order to restrict the spread of Novel Corona Virus, Meghalaya Government has decided to close all entry points to the state from July 23 midnight to July 31.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, Prestone Tynsong said, the state government has decided to temporarily close the entry points at Byrnihat, Ratacherra, Bajengdoba, Tikrikilla, Mirjumla and Hallidayganj.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that this was done to give rest to the surveillance teams stationed at the entry points.

Tynsong said that the entry points will be opened only for medical emergencies, transportation of essential commodities and transit of vehicles to Assam.

“This is essential to unburden the health and front line workers as well as the district administration who are engaged in extensive surveillance,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.

He also said that the government will use this time to identify another location for setting up an entry point at Byrnihat.

Tynsong said that the Assam government has objected to the present entry point stating that their people going to Upper Assam are inconvenienced with the present location of Meghalaya’s entry point.
