‘Govt failed to act on time on Ichamati issue’

SHILLONG, Oct 23: Opposition leader, Dr. Mukul Sangma on Friday said that the failure of the government to act on time on the Ichamati issue has led to various narratives in the social media creating misunderstanding among different communities and defamed the state.

“What is the government doing when such vicious, unpleasant narratives are being circulated. It does not augur well for the state. People of the state are peace loving. Our government in the past has overcome such challenges and the government of the day is expected to overcome such challenges and resolve it in time,” Dr. Sangma said.

The leader of opposition alleged that all this happened because of the inept, incompetent government and even now the government is sleeping on the issue which could have been resolved a very long time ago.

According to Dr. Sangma when the Congress led government was in power before 2018, the state had generated positive perception which ultimately emerged as the most favoured destination.

“But gone are those positive stories not these are being replaced by narratives which is unpleasant and which is something which is against as concern member of the society of the state we feel perturbed,” the opposition leader added.

Dr. Sangma also said that the opposition Congress in the Meghalaya Assembly will take up the issue of problems of inter-state border with Assam and also concerns in delay in completing the entry/exit point and also the implementation of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act.
