Shillong, Sept 16: Congress Spokesperson and MLA, Zenith Sangma, on Wednesday, said that the government has failed in the fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic.
He said that the COVID situation has ‘gone out of control’ and yet there was no coordination between the government and respective district administrations and no proper road map.
“There is no proper coordination between the government and respective district administrations, no proper road map, what is the mechanism adopted as far as fighting against this virus is concerned?” he questioned.
The MLA from Rangsakona also revealed that patients from Garo Hills, who have been referred to NEIGRIHMS or other referral centres in Shillong, have been using ambulances from Goalpara in Assam, since ambulances in the region are not willing to go to Shillong.
“Last week, I got to know that when any patient is referred to NEIGRIHMS or any other referral centres, Tura patients don’t get ambulance or anywhere in Garo hills, no driver is available. If any ambulance comes from Tura in brining patients to any referral centre in Shillong, while going back they have to quarantine,” he said.
He said that patients are bringing ambulances from Golpara, Assam but the Director of Health Services was not aware of the fact.
Zenith also touched on the issue of lack of medical attention for patients suffering from diseases other than coronavirus and also spoke about the over 877 new-born and 61 pregnant women deaths since April.
