Govt needs to do more to tackle COVID-19: Presbyterian Church of India


Shillong, Apr 21: Senior Administrative Secretary of the Presbyterian Church of India, Reverend G.S Lyttan expressed concern over Meghalaya Government’s ability to handle the situation arising from positive cases of COVID-19 reported in the state.
In a letter directed to Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh, the Reverend said that the government needs to do more.
“These days after the COVID-19 outbreak in Meghalaya, we could see the government is trying its outmost best in handling the whole situation but there are still a lot more needed to address with at this juncture,” he said.
The Reverend suggested constituting a panel of healthcare professional experts who can follow up on protocols of directives and advisories. “Every day updated briefings on the issue of COVID-19 pandemic should come out for the experts editions,” the letter read.
He also suggested constituting a monitoring panel to comprehensively frame proper modalities and guidelines in handling the situation of present pandemic.
“A panel comprising of public representatives, bureaucrats, legal experts church leaders/religious leaders and social organisations,” he said.
