Govt. sincere to resolve Harijan colony issue: Tynsong

Shillong, Apr 22: Deputy chief minister who is the chairman of the HLC, Prestone Tynsong has said the state government was sincere to resolve the issue of Harijan Colony at Them Iewmawlong.

Speaking to the media person on Monday, the deputy chief minister said that apart from the genuine settlers who are government employees, there is the issue of illegal occupation, then the issue of ownership staying at the Harijan Colony.

The HLC chairman added that there is also the issue where to relocate the genuine employees.

According to Tynsong the land belongs to the Syiem of Mylliem, and the land which belongs to the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) is only 13000 sq. ft.

He said that how long it will take to resolve the issue one cannot say but the government wants to complete it as early as possible, he added.

The deputy chief minister said, “We have to walk step by step . We can’t say the issue will be resolved now, tomorrow or day after.”

Tynsong further said that the government is sincere and we are going to do our best to resolve the issue which is pending for so many years and we will resolve it once and for all.

“We will shift the genuine employees of the SMB presently residing at Harijan Colony to the temporary office of the Board located at Bishop Cotton Road,” deputy chief minister said.

However, Tynsong said that the government will have to first find an alternative place to house the office of the SMB.
