SHILLONG, Jun 18: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma said that, his government took note of the menace of drugs in the state and had asked the police to take action.
“It is because of the police action and because of the orders given by us that these activities are really now being monitored,” Conrad said.
The Chief Minister also said that this is not which has started only in the past one year.
“This is the kind of situation which has been prevailing for many years. It never came out since there was no action taken and there was no concerted efforts on that line,” he pointed out.
Meanwhile, on the issue of human trafficking, Conrad said that the aggressiveness is even more on this front since his government was concerned about it.
The Chief Minister said that his government was not going to take this issue very lightly.
“A lot of intelligence has been collected in the past few months and after which we decided that we will go aggressively about it…let things happen and more things will come up,” he stated.
Conrad said that the issue of human trafficking is a cross border matter which really needs to be taken up at the regional level.
“We have mention this at the different levels to the bureaucrats in Delhi and even at the political leaders level. May be in weeks or months we may have a joint discussion about this,” Conrad added.
