Govt to write to UGC seeking postponement of exams to October

SHILLONG, Sep 2: The State government on Wednesday decided to postpone the final semester exams for all Under Graduation and Post Graduation Courses to October.

It may be mentioned that the UGC in July had issued notification that all states should complete the examination process by September 30 after which some states went to the court.

It may be mentioned that recently the Supreme Court has said that the examination cannot be cancelled but postponed or delayed.

State Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui on Wednesday said that the government decided that the examinations will be from October 7 to 16.

He informed that the State’s Education department held two round of meeting with NEHU authorities which is responsible for conducting the examinations and also taking into consideration the prevalent cases of COVID-19 cases in the State.

However, Rymbui said that the state government will have to write to the University Grants Commission for its approval with the dates agreed by the state government.

“We decided that the examinations will be held on October 7, 9, 12, 14 and 16. The results will be declared on or before October 31,” Rymbui said.

The state Education Minister also said that for the undergraduate students, they will have the option of appearing either online mode or offline mode. But postgraduate students will have to appear for their examinations through online.

He also said that for students of the state who wants to appear in the nearest examination center where they reside rather then come to the college in another district they can do so by seeking permission from the NEHU authorities.
